Introducing our new Best of Hokkaido and Tohoku Tour
We are excited to announce our new Best of Hokkaido and Tohoku tour, starting in 2010. The northernmost of the main islands, Hokkaido is Japan's last frontier, kept at bay by wild mountains, virgin forests, sapphire lakes and surf-beaten shores. The attitudes of the inhabitants are akin to those of the pioneers of the American West, but still unmistakably Japanese. Tohoku, literally translating to "Northeast", is also relatively unpopulated and was for a long time the buffer zone between the heavily populated areas of Japan to the south and the Ainu tribes to the north. Today, Tohoku is primarily a rural, agricultural area. But with its many mountain ranges, volcanic caldera lakes and onsen (hot springs) it is also one of the best places in Japan for outdoor activities.
