Best of Japan in 22 Days
A terrific tour. Our only warning would be that it is really fast paced with very little down time. Whoever takes this tour needs to be in good health and have the ability to handle their overnight luggage on public transportation including carrying it, on some occasions, up and down flights of stairs when there are no elevators or escalators. Other than this caveat, this is a wonderful tour with amazing guides. In reviewing what the trip cost and what we received from Samurai, this was a real value.___________________________________________Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback on our tours. We are so happy that you enjoyed your experience with us! We do strive to make each clients trip a once in a lifetime journey. And our guides are dedicated to making our clients feel at home in their city. We hope to see you in Japan again soon!~ Samurai Tours Staff
Itinerary
This was a really fast paced tour covering so may areas of Japan that other tours don\'t include. It was a great way to get an overview of the country and be able to decide where one might want to go back and spend more time on a future trip. We also did a post trip extension on our own and that itinerary was really excellent.
Lodging
The lodging was a good mix of traditional and Western. All were in really good locations. Probably the most difficult to get used to was the Buddhist ryokan in Koya-San and not because of the shared bathroom/toilet but because of the very thin walls so that we could hear every sound. However, it was only 1 night and such a different and unusual experience. The ryokan in Miyajima was amazing and a really lovely treat.
Food
For the most part the food was delicious and it was certainly plentiful. It was as varied as could be. We had some amazing meals including on Miyjima and our farewell dinner.
Guides
All our guides were excellent and did an amazing job. They all had a sense of humor and could interact really well with all the group members. Their knowledge of the area they were guiding was terrific. Perhaps the hardest part for the group was having to change guides since we all became really attached to each one.
Pre-Tour Handbook
Great information
Tour Organization
The coordination of the transportation, sightseeing, free time was pretty amazing. The staff in Tokyo was unbelievably organized and took care of getting us all the paperwork for both the guided and self guided tour.
Tour Transportation
What a great way to travel. The first 22 days using public transportation with the group made the extension on our own so easy despite our initial nervousness. Traveling like this gave us a chance to interact with lots of different people and not just tourists at tourist sights.
